2013 Acura RDX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Acura RDX was new.

Interior: 7.8

Reviewers are impressed with the 2013 Acura RDX’s cabin. They appreciate that it’s made with high-quality materials, and they like that there’s plenty of space to stretch out in the front and rear seats. Another bonus is that the interior controls are easy to use, even with the optional navigation system.

  • "The 2013 RDX interior evolved in step with its exterior: the new cabin is far more upscale and attractive than that of its predecessor." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "Strides in refinement are evident when you slide into the seat. From the low levels of road and wind noise to the glove-soft leather on the seats and steering wheel, the RDX is an eminently pleasant place in which to spend time. There's a greater sense of space in the cabin, too, though the actual dimensional gains are rather modest. Still, airiness is welcome whether it's illusory or not." -- Inside Line
  • "Inside, the center stack is much more intuitive, with climate controls, audio and navigation buttons grouped together." -- AutoWeek

Reviewers say the RDX’s cabin is a comfortable, quite place to spend time. The majority of test drivers say that all five seats offer plenty of space for adults, and that the seat cushions are supportive. One reviewer said his children’s car seats were easy to install, and that his kids could enter and exit the second row without a problem. Though the RDX is spacious, one reviewer wishes it had height-adjustable seats for the front.

  • "The interior is quieter because new lightweight sound insulating materials were used." -- The Detroit News
  • "Seat comfort front and rear is very good, with firm, supportive cushions and plenty of head- and legroom." -- Edmunds
  • "The rear seats have plenty of leg- and knee room for average-sized adults. Both front and rear legroom lead the class. … It was relatively easy for me to install child-safety seats for my two preschoolers, and they had an easy time getting into and out of the backseat." -- Newsday
  • "It doesn't take a whole lot of work to get comfortable in the 10-way power driver's seat, but front passengers might feel like they're riding low, as that seat does not adjust for height." -- Kelley Blue Book

Interior Features

All 2013 Acura RDX models come standard with automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a USB port and a system that reads text messages to you and allows you to choose a pre-programmed response.

The RDX can come with features like navigation and song by voice, which selects music from the hard drive or your iPod via voice commands. When tech features are added to other cars, reviewers often complain that controls become too complicated, but they say the exact opposite about the RDX’s controls. Even with navigation, they say that most features aren’t tough to use.

  • "The controls are easy to understand." -- The Detroit News
  • "The RDX's various high-tech convenience features, including the navigation system, are user-friendly, while the powerful uplevel sound system should please most audiophiles with its clarity and separation." -- Edmunds

Reviewers like that the RDX’s second-row seats flip forward with ease, they appreciate the cargo area’s flat load floor and they like that there’s a lot of space for groceries. The RDX has 26.1 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 61.3 cubic feet with them folded down.

  • "The all-star-SUV element out back is the wide-mouthed opening of the rear liftgate and the generous access it gives you to the equally generous, flat-floored cargo area." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "I found it plenty large for my needs, which included a Costco run that filled the back with three 55-pound bags of potting soil and left enough room for food and other items. More important, the low load floor simplifies throwing in those large items." -- Newsday
  • "The rear seats fold down easily to maximize the cargo space." -- CNET
