2011 Acura RDX Review

The 2011 Acura RDX has better handling and more cargo space than most competing 2011 luxury compact SUVs, but more recently updated rivals offer more opulence and better fuel economy.

Pros & Cons

  • Good cargo-carrying capacity
  • Agile handling
  • Many standard features
  • Some low-rent interior materials

2011 Acura RDX Overview

When it was new, critics enjoyed driving the 2011 Acura RDX, thanks to its taut suspension and sprightly engine, though some complained about turbo lag. Although well-equipped, some reviewers griped that the quality of the interior materials is lower than that of some competitors.

Powering the RDX is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 240 horsepower. Fuel economy is about average, with front-wheel drive models averaging 19/24 mpg city/highway, while all-wheel drive reduces that to 17/22 mpg. With the rear seats folded, the RDX can hold 60.6 cubic feet of cargo, which is good for the class.

Inside, most reviewers said the seats were plenty comfortable, but several were put off by cabin materials that they thought aren’t as nice as what some rivals offer. Still, most were impressed by the RDX’s many standard features, which include leather seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth and a power sunroof. Models equipped with the available technology package have a climate control that automatically adjusts based on the intensity of the sun, as well as navigation, a rearview camera and upgraded sound system. Aside from a minor facelift in 2010, the RDX has undergone few changes since 2007, so you may be able to save some money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re looking for something sportier than the RDX, check out the 2011 Infiniti EX. Critics said it’s one of the most muscular offerings in the class, and that it handles like a sport sedan. Keep in mind it has very limited cargo space, so it may not be your best choice if you regularly have a lot of stuff to carry.

Another 2011 compact SUV to consider is the 2011 Volvo XC60. The XC60 is the practical choice in the class, with a cavernous cargo hold and generally comfortable seats. It doesn’t have the agile handling of the RDX, but most critics said it handles just fine for most buyers.
