2018 Acura NSX Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.5

The 2018 Acura NSX is handsomely built with top-notch materials. Elegant touches – like the genuine leather dash and Alcantara adornments – add to its prestigious ambiance. Some feel that there are too many parts shared with other Acura vehicles, decreasing the NSX's specialness. Seat comfort and visibility are superb, the infotainment system is so-so, and cargo space is small.

  • "Acura's designers have managed to create a warm and welcoming cabin with a modern, high-tech vibe. There's nothing retro about it; still, the shapes and overall design offer a connection to the interior of the original Acura NSX." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Areas liberally covered with Alcantara faux suede add a racy flare to the interior that's otherwise very Acura-like in its design simplicity. Materials are authentic and borderline lavish with varieties of colors and materials delivering unique combinations more along the lines of what Porsche or Audi offer. … An available Alcantara headliner and a genuine leather-covered dashboard are touches often seen in high-end luxury cars; most dashes use imitation leather." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "When you climb inside the NSX, you're immediately faced with one unavoidable reality: You're sitting in an Acura. You're not awestruck that you're in a supercar. You're not excited to find yourself sitting in a high-dollar exotic. You're not overcome with the joy of being in a long-awaited icon. You look around the cockpit, you take everything in, and you think to yourself: 'Yep, this is an Acura.'" -- Autotrader (2017)

Seating

Perforated leather seats with Alcantara trimmings are standard in the two-seat 2018 NSX, along with leather-wrapped door panels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and instrument panel. The seats come standard with manual adjustments, and heated seats with power adjustments are available.

The NSX outclasses many of its rivals when it comes to providing all-day comfort. The cushions are agreeable, the thick bolstering holds you firmly during spirited driving, and forward visibility is first-rate.

  • "Visibility is excellent for a mid-engine sports car and the interior is well-finished. Deeply bolstered bucket seats trimmed in perforated Milano leather and Alcantara provide an excellent combination of comfort and support without feeling confining and are complemented by extra padding on the door panels and center console. The flat-bottom steering wheel is a cool touch." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Sitting inside the NSX actually is refreshing for a 'supercar.' There aren't any weird doors to climb through or to drop into like the exotically designed BMW i8. A traditional set of doors accesses a surprisingly roomy and comfortable interior with a natural seating position and fantastic forward visibility. The A-pillar structure is a world's-first design, according to the automaker, using ultra-high-strength steel to create the thin pillars. They combine with a low belt line and tall glass for excellent visibility. The clear forward view is as welcome on the track while pointing the nose toward an apex as it is on the road when providing a good view of pedestrians." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "… the seats are supportive and comfortable, the driving position is perfect, there's more than sufficient headroom for very tall drivers, and the materials look and feel appropriately rich." -- Motor Trend (2017)

Interior Features

The NSX infotainment system contains a 7-inch touch screen, an eight-speaker sound system, navigation, two USB ports, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Pandora, HD Radio, and Siri Eyes Free. Other standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a proximity key with push-button start, a multi-angle rearview camera, and emergency brake assist. Available packages include options like satellite radio, an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker premium surround-sound system, and front and rear parking sensors.

It's easy for the driver to access the touch screen, but with few redundant buttons, this system requires extra attention to change settings. Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users and hands-free text messaging help a little.

  • "The 7.0-inch infotainment touch screen is well placed but seems a bit pedestrian at this price point." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The USB port compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto is located in the rear console storage box, while a second USB port in the glove box is used for charging or for other MP3 devices. The user experience is pretty typical of other Acura and Honda vehicles with touch-screens, meaning the lack of physical controls for volume and tuning is just as annoying in the NSX." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "The NSX is not a car for taking selfies while you drive, although the standard navigation radio (the same infuriating dial-free system used across the Honda lineup) features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay." -- Autoblog (2017)

Cargo

The NSX has a 4.4-cubic-foot trunk. Almost every other luxury sports car offers more storage space, with 5.4 cubic feet in the Lexus LC, 8 in the Audi R8, and 8.8 in the Nissan GT-R.

  • "Under the NSX's rear hatch is a 4.4-cubic-foot trunk Acura says can fit one golf bag or a weekend's worth of luggage for two people. The size and shape aren't out of the ordinary for the class, though most mid-engine cars place their luggage compartment up front like the Audi A8 (8 cubic feet) and Porsche 911 Turbo (4.1 cubic feet)." -- Cars.com (2017)
  • "Cargo volume is limited to a small rear trunk (4.4 cubic feet) that really heats up because of its location to the engine." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "If there's one knock to the interior, it's that there's little storage, and most of it is hard to access while driving. That too is probably on purpose." -- Autoblog (2017)
