  • Low fuel economy for the class

2013 Acura MDX Overview

Is the 2013 Acura MDX a Good Used SUV?

You can’t go wrong with a used 2013 Acura MDX. It’s a very good luxury midsize SUV with plenty of standard and available features in its upscale, roomy cabin. The standard all-wheel drive delivers agile handling, and its reliability rating is good. When it was new, we named the MDX our 2013 Best 3-Row SUV for the Money.

Used 2013 Acura MDX Performance and Interior

With its 300-horsepower V6 engine, the 2013 Acura MDX feels slow from a stop. However, once the SUV is on the move, there is power in abundance. Its six-speed automatic transmission has smooth, timely shifts. With an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, the Acura MDX requires more fuel than most competing SUVs, partly due to its standard all-wheel-drive system. Its sharp steering feels well-controlled around tight corners, especially in models with the available adjustable suspension. This feature has one downside – it creates a harsh ride quality when the SUV is in Sport mode.

The seven-seat, 3-row Acura MDX's cabin is well-constructed with first-class materials. First-row occupants enjoy comfortable, spacious seats, and second-row riders have plenty of legroom. The third row, however, isn't very roomy for adults. All three second-row seats have complete sets of LATCH connectors for securing child safety seats, while the third row has an upper tether anchor in each outboard seat. The 2013 MDX has a cavernous cargo capacity of up to 83.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. While the Acura MDX's dashboard contains lots of buttons, they're well laid out and relatively easy to master.

Standard features include satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack, a rearview camera, and Bluetooth for phones. Available features include a multi-view rearview camera, a 10-speaker premium ELS stereo, a USB port, a back-seat entertainment system, and a user-friendly navigation system with a vibrant display.

2013 Acura MDX and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Acura MDX or 2013 Acura RDX?

The 2013 Acura RDX is a five-seat luxury compact SUV. It's a good option if you don't need three rows. Like its larger sibling (the MDX), the RDX features a refined ride and a roomy interior with comfortable seats and premium materials. The RDX also has a powerful V6 engine. Even with its available all-wheel drive, it uses less fuel than the MDX. Though it doesn’t have as much cargo space as the MDX, the RDX has more storage room than most other SUVs in its class.

Which Is Better: 2013 Acura MDX or 2013 BMW X5?

Unless your priority is high performance, the Acura MDX is the more balanced and practical SUV. The 2-row 2013 BMW X5 has standard all-wheel drive, supreme handling, and several available engines with substantial power. Still, the MDX has a stronger standard engine, a softer ride, a roomier second row, simpler cabin controls, and better safety and reliability ratings.
