2009 Acura MDX Review

The 2009 Acura MDX excels as a performance-minded family vehicle with a high-tech interior, precise handling and excellent safety scores. However, several reviewers criticized its cramped third row.

Pros & Cons

  • Sporty handling
  • Plenty of power
  • Great safety scores
  • Upscale, well-made cabin with lots of standard features
  • Cramped third row

2009 Acura MDX Overview

Reviewers praised the 2009 Acura MDX for its sporty performance, stylish interior and standard all-wheel drive. The MDX comes with more standard features than more upscale competition, like the 2009 BMW X5, and its first two rows of seats are especially comfortable. The MDX also has great safety scores, outranking competition like the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg and class-leading 2009 Lexus RX 350, as well as standard all-wheel drive. The MDX gets 15/20 mpg city/highway, which is about average for an all-wheel drive, three-row SUV in the class.

However, the MDX isn’t perfect. Reviewers disliked its aggressive, beak-like grille. The sporty ride on the 2009 Acura MDX may feel too stiff for some buyers, and its third row of seats is only large enough for children, though that’s typical of many midsize crossovers. If you’re in the market for a high-tech and fun three-row luxury crossover, the Acura MDX is a great choice.

Other Cars to Consider

If you need more towing, seating or off-roading capacity in an SUV, check out the 2009 Lexus GX. It’s a traditional, truck-based SUV that reviewers said offers an impeccably-made and attractively-designed cabin worthy of its Lexus badge. The GX has high projected maintenance costs for the class.

Like the 2009 Acura MDX, the 2009 Infiniti FX offers high-tech luxury and sporty performance. The FX doesn’t have a third row or standard all-wheel drive, but it’s an excellent choice for performance-minded buyers. The V6-powered FX35 also uses less fuel than the MDX, though the V8-powered FX50 earns slightly lower estimates.
