2019 Acura MDX Hybrid Interior Review

Interior: 6.7

The 2019 Acura MDX Hybrid uses quality materials throughout its interior, but its cabin still lacks the rich feel of many rival cabins. The seats are comfortable, though the third row is too small for most adults. Cargo space is decent, and the infotainment system is easy to use.

  • Everything seems meticulously put together, and the Advance's wood trim adds an air of luxury. However, European competitors still manage to feel more substantial than the MDX, and their cabin designs more elegant." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • In fact, look around and you see a lot of Honda lightly overlaid with nicer Acura materials, which is not unexpected – but even so, a few more dollars spent to elevate it beyond its Honda Pilot sibling would be appreciated inside." -- Autoblog (2017)
  • "The company expects the MDX hybrid's target buyer to be both significantly younger and more affluent than those who go for the nonhybrid models. Considering that, the hybrid's interior feels conservative – if a bit drab – for the mission." -- Car and Driver (2017)

The standard Acura MDX Hybrid seats seven, but that drops to six with available second-row captain's chairs. It comes standard with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and heated front seats. Premium Milano leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are available.

MDX Hybrid passengers can ride comfortably on long trips thanks to the first two rows of roomy, supportive seats. Tall people may wish for a tad more headroom, though. The third-row seats are best left for kids because most adults will feel cramped back there.

The MDX Hybrid has three complete LATCH systems in its second row, along with two tether anchors in the third row. The lower anchors are easy to locate and attach child seat straps to, but the tether anchors can be hard to find.

  • The roomy interior can accommodate adults in the 6-foot range, but the third-row seat is accommodating only to children." -- Autotrader
  • The front seats offer all-day comfort along with standard heating and available ventilation. The high second-row seats require minimal knee bend but are somewhat tight on headroom. The third row is quite snug and best reserved for children." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Inside, the '17 MDXs gain a comfortable, roomy second row of captains chairs as an option, and unless you desperately need the extra seat I'd suggest equipping them. The third row seat is tight, but not overly so for the class – and it'll be fine for the kids." -- Autoblog (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the MDX Hybrid include tri-zone automatic climate control, GPS-linked climate control, remote start, a moonroof, proximity key entry, a push-button ignition, an infotainment system with dual touch screens, a 10-speaker ELS audio system, HD Radio, satellite radio, navigation, voice command activation, Bluetooth, five USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, and the AcuraLink telematics system.

Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.

Available features include an 11-speaker ELS audio system, two third-row USB ports, a head-up warning, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view parking camera system.

Unlike most vehicles, the MDX Hybrid features two infotainment screens. It can be a little confusing at first, as the screens control different functions. But once you get used to it, the system works well.

  • "Climate controls are split between the touchscreen and a row of buttons and rocker switches. The layout is more logical than in some other Acura/Honda products, but it requires an extra step for certain adjustments. Performance is effective." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "This year the 2018 MDX gets an improved infotainment system with more intuitive menus and a redesigned dual-screen interface with faster response. The new system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

The MDX Hybrid has 15 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 38.4 cubic feet with the third row folded down, and a maximum of 68.4 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.

A power liftgate comes standard, and there’s additional storage space under the cargo floor. Loading items into the cargo hold is easy because the second- and third-row seats fold down completely flat.

  • "Space behind the third-row seat is good, and folding both rows creates a level floor." -- Autotrader
  • "Total cargo capacity is on par with that of other three-row midsize luxury crossovers and better than space in two-row models. The ease with which the third- and second-row seats fold flat and provide a level loading floor merits praise." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Folding down the 2nd- and 3rd-row seat backs creates a large, flat-floor cargo area, which is augmented by quite a bit of added storage space under the floor." -- Consumer Guide (2017)
