Which Used MDX Hybrid Model Is Right for Me?

The 2017 Acura MDX Hybrid comes in one trim level: Sport Hybrid. It’s packed with standard features like leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, push-button start, a moonroof,  proximity key, and a hands-free power liftgate. The standard dual-screen infotainment system features a 10-speaker audio system, four USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, voice command, and navigation. Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a multi-angle rearview camera.

When it was new, the MDX Sport Hybrid was also available with an optional package. That means some models may come with features like a head-up display, a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, an 11-speaker premium audio system, two additional USB ports, ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, second-row captain's chairs, a heated steering wheel, and LED fog lights.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2017 Acura MDX Hybrid a Top Safety Pick+ and gave it the highest rating of Good in five crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the MDX Hybrid five out of five stars overall, with five stars in frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test.

The Acura MDX Sport Hybrid comes standard with a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Both the 2017 Acura MDX and the MDX Sport Hybrid come with precise handling and powerful engines, but the regular MDX has a lower price. However, the MDX Hybrid comes standard with all-wheel drive and a longer list of standard features. The MDX Hybrid also has better gas mileage estimates, resulting in lower annual fuel costs. Though the hybrid costs more, it may be cheaper to own than a fully loaded gas-only model.

Which Is Better: 2017 Acura MDX Hybrid or 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Although the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid sits in the non-luxury midsize SUV class, it compares well with the MDX Hybrid. The Highlander Hybrid has exceptional fuel economy, plenty of horsepower, and composed handling. Inside, there's seating for up to eight (one more than in the MDX Hybrid). The Highlander Hybrid offers a richer interior with more passengers and cargo room than the Acura. Although the Highlander Hybrid doesn't come with as many standard features as the MDX Hybrid, it has a generous list of advanced safety equipment. If you're willing to forgo the luxury badge and some standard amenities, the Toyota is an excellent alternative to the Acura.

There are three full sets of LATCH child-seat connectors on the 2017 Acura MDX Hybrid's second row seats and an upper tether on both third-row seats. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the MDX the second-highest rating of Acceptable for ease of use. Some upper tethers are hard to use and could possibly be confused for other hardware, and some lower anchors are a tad too deep in the seats and challenging to maneuver around.
