2019 Acura ILX Interior Review

Interior: 5.5

The 2019 Acura ILX has a decent amount of space for average-sized people, but taller passengers will wish for additional headroom. The Acura's cabin features many high-quality materials but also some hard plastics that don't look like they belong in a luxury vehicle. For 2019, Acura added several standard and available safety and technology features.

  • "While there might be some good features and equipment here, it still suffers from feeling like a slightly gussied-up old Honda. Consider the RDX's material choices and design language, or the new Accord's ultra-modern feel. The ILX is old, sure, but you can't have the luxury car brand interiors lag so far behind the non-luxury branded cars." -- Autoblog
  • "Unfortunately, outside the seats and small color and trim alterations, the ILX's cabin layout is unchanged, with a blocky dash and large swaths of cheap, hard plastic on the center stack." -- CNET
  • "Our biggest complaint in higher-speed driving was the road noise that crept into the cabin, especially on rougher asphalt." -- Kelley Blue Book

There is seating for five people in the 2019 ILX. Standard features include leatherette-trimmed, heated front sport seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Leather-trimmed seats and a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat are optional. Average-sized adults will find a good amount of space in the front and decent legroom in the rear. Taller passengers should take heed, however. The standard moonroof limits headroom in both rows, and rear-seat passengers will have even less headroom due to the sloped roofline.

For connecting child safety seats, the ILX has two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

  • "The seats themselves are comfortable, but don't hug your body like a pair of Recaro buckets." -- Autoweek
  • "In other respects, much about the ILX remains the same. The rear seats are cramped, but the fronts are comfortable and expansive, although drivers more than six feet tall may grow accustomed to having their hair involuntarily styled by the headliner." -- Car and Driver
  • "There’s a decent amount of legroom in the back seat for the average adult, and while I didn’t spend a ton of time back there on my brief test, my 5'11" frame didn’t feel too cramped." -- Jalopnik

Interior Features

The ILX comes standard with an infotainment system that includes a USB port, Bluetooth, a 5-inch display, a six-speaker audio system, and Siri Eyes Free. The ILX also comes loaded with lots of standard safety features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, a road departure mitigation system, a collision mitigation braking system, a multi-view rearview parking camera, and adaptive cruise control.

Available features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, the AcuraLink telematics system, a seven- or 10-speaker premium audio system, a 7-inch touch-screen multi-use display, an 8-inch information display, navigation, satellite radio, HD Radio, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.

The optional dual-screen infotainment system received an update for the 2019 model year. It has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, quicker menu response times, and sharper graphics. The single-screen and dual-screen interfaces are simple and easy to use, and there are physical controls on the bottom of the center console for most audio and climate functions. Some reviewers think the infotainment system's graphics are dated compared to those of competitors.

  • "Acura updated the infotainment system, but it feels ancient compared to the completely new setup in the RDX — Acura needed that system in all of its cars yesterday. Plenty of the requisite tech is onboard, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. AcuraWatch comes standard too, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, road-departure mitigation and auto emergency braking." -- Autoblog
  • "The dual-screen media system is straightforward and easy to navigate, in theory. When you activate Apple CarPlay, the imitation iPhone screen goes to the top of the two screens, which is then controlled by a knob on the center stack -- instead of the ultra-intuitive touch screen approach. Still, you’ll be able to get your music playing, and your Apple navigation working. The system is quick to launch CarPlay, and is responsive." -- Autoweek
  • "Infotainment systems in luxury manufacturers are getting more and more complicated as features increase, but Acura has kept theirs simple, while working Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into the mix helps any buyer easily use the car’s screen." -- Jalopnik

There's 12.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the ILX's trunk, which is about average for the class. The rear seats can fold, creating additional space for cargo when the rear seats are not in use.

  • "The exterior may look generic, but the trunk is voluminous." -- Car and Driver
