2015 Acura ILX Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Acura ILX was new.

Interior: 7.4

While some automotive critics find that the 2015 Acura ILX’s cabin is well-appointed with quality materials, others think the ILX’s interior materials are not significantly nicer than what you’ll find in affordable sedans. Reviewers think that the ILX has a formidable list of standard features as well as the latest technology.

  • The ILX's interior is well-constructed, but the materials used aren't really a step up from top non-luxury sedans. Similarly, the design features Acura's typical high-tech vibe, but it's nowhere near as luxurious as in the classy A3. You do get a fair amount of features, though." -- Edmunds
  • "Inside, the material quality is leaps and bounds ahead of what you get in the Civic, and the leather seats are typical Acura: firm and wonderfully supportive. The available technology is likewise superior." -- AutoTrader
  • "Nice materials, padded surfaces, and handsome two-tone color combinations work together to create an attractive, but not particularly fancy, interior." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • The 2014 ILX interior is roomy in front, claustrophobic in the rear, and well equipped throughout." -- Kelley Blue Book (2014)
  • "The dashboard, the instruments, and the center stack controls are similar to those in the TSX, festooned with a platoon of buttons and switches, but the seats are comfortable, the materials upscale, and the list of standard features impressive." -- Popular Mechanics (2013)

The Acura ILX seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, heated front seats and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Reviewers report that the ILX has spacious front seats, although several say that headroom is lacking for taller occupants. The ILX provides a comfortable ride, and room in the back seat that’s suitable for a compact car, according to critics. The 2015 ILX comes standard with an active noise cancellation system, and a few reviewers appreciate the lack of road noise in the cabin. However, some note that rearward visibility is poor.

  • It has a ride quality that we're comfortable calling premium, even if you still feel more impacts than you might be used to in an Acura. Road noise, too, is thankfully reduced." -- AutoTrader
  • Special care was used in designing the seats, which are supportive without giving the impression of confinement or hardness. The ILX is also pretty spacious for a compact car, with a decent amount of backseat room. Still, headroom can be snug for 6-footers, due to the car's standard sunroof." -- Edmunds
  • The seats are comfortable and supportive, but some testers felt they were set too low making entry and exit a chore. Outward visibility isn't great, particularly to the rear." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "Seats are comfy. Rear-seat legroom is just OK, as expected in a compact car." -- USA Today (2013)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Acura ILX include a rearview camera, Bluetooth, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a USB port, Pandora Internet radio compatibility and a seven-speaker stereo, which includes an 8-inch subwoofer. The technology package adds features like navigation and a more powerful 10-speaker ELS surround-sound audio system.

Some reviewers think there are too many buttons on the ILX’s dash, and that some are not in the best location. However, others write that the layout of the controls is uncluttered and everything is where it should be. Critics praise the 2015 ILX’s optional ELS audio system for its great sound, and note that the infotainment system is easy to use.

  • "The 2015 Acura ILX sedan offers up roomy seating for its front two passengers, both of whom will find the clean layout of the dash and simple-to-use entertainment system refreshing." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There is a 5-inch display screen topping the center stack for the myriad infotainment functions, and smartly placed buttons and knobs to control them. A 6-inch screen comes with the navigation system, as do voice command functionality (navigation and audio) and a nice-sounding ELS audio system." -- Edmunds
  • Most controls are within easy reach, but there are a lot of buttons to study. In addition, some testers think the climate controls are mounted too low on the dash." -- Consumer Guide (2014)

At 12.3 cubic feet, the ILX’s trunk is not as large as the trunks in competitors like the Buick Verano or BMW 2-Series. However, reviewers say that the ILX has a useful amount of space. The ILX’s rear seat folds almost completely flat, but it doesn’t split like many other models’ rear seats. A few critics wish that the ILX had a split-folding rear seat, and say that its narrow pass-through limits cargo flexibility.

  • Trunk space, at 12.3 cubic feet, is average, and the opening is a little narrow." -- Edmunds
  • "The trunk is wide, but the lid's sickle-style hinges dip into the cargo area. We're disappointed that the fold-down rear seat back is one piece, rather than split as on most cars. The back releases from the trunk and folds nearly horizontal, but at a level about 3 inches above the trunk's floor. The pass-through is pretty narrow at the bottom too, limiting cargo versatility." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "The ILX still had plenty of room for weekend errands." -- Autoweek (2013)
