2013 Acura ILX Hybrid Review

Although the 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid gets good fuel economy for the class, it has little trunk space and reviewers complained about its underpowered engine and sparse rear-seat headroom.

Pros & Cons

  • Top-notch cabin build quality
  • Good fuel economy for the class
  • Small trunk
  • Limited rear-seat headroom
  • Sluggish highway acceleration

2013 Acura ILX Hybrid Overview

Powered by a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, a few automotive writers said the 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid has sufficient power for city driving. However, several critics thought it could use more power, especially at highway speeds. Some also complained that the ILX Hybrid’s start-stop system cycles the engine on and off too frequently in stop-and-go traffic. An automatic transmission is standard, and some reviewers said it is noisy. At an EPA-estimated 39/38 mpg city/highway, the Acura ILX Hybrid’s fuel economy is good for the class but lower than that of rivals like the Lexus CT Hybrid. According to most automotive journalists, the ILX Hybrid’s ride is firm, but not uncomfortably so, and there is minimal body lean while cornering. A few reviewers also commented that the steering feels a bit too light on the highway.

The new-for-2013 Acura ILX Hybrid’s cabin is well-built and features soft-touch materials, according to most reviewers. Test drivers reported that the front seats are comfortable and plush. However, critics said taller passengers may not have enough headroom in the back seat. Standard features include push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack and Pandora Internet radio. Available features include a seven-speaker audio system and navigation. Test drivers appreciated that the ILX Hybrid’s audio controls operate independently of the navigation system. However, a few critics disliked the ILX Hybrid’s button-heavy dash, and others said that the navigation system does not offer enough clarity in terms of labeling street names or identifying highway exit lanes. The Acura ILX Hybrid has up to 10 cubic feet of trunk space, which is small for the class.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2013 Lexus CT Hybrid earns better fuel economy estimates than the ILX Hybrid. The CT Hybrid also has more cargo space.

For a non-hybrid, the 2013 Acura TSX gets good fuel economy for the class with its standard four-cylinder engine. Test drivers praised its smooth automatic transmissions and powerful available V6 engine, and the TSX has more trunk space than the ILX Hybrid.
