Toyota Unveils Drive-Oriented Camry

The Toyota Camry enters its eighth generation with the 2018 model, and none of the previous seven generations have been as focused on driving dynamics. For the next Camry, Toyota started with what it calls TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture). TNGA is basically Toyota’s new way of designing its vehicles, which Toyota claims will help make them more exciting to drive. The Camry is built on the new GA-K platform, and as a result the car is lower, wider, and more structurally rigid than before, making it (in theory) more of a driver’s car. The GA-K Camry has, as Toyota describes it, a “more exciting and emotional character.”

The new generation begins with three new engine options, plus an updated infotainment system and app suite that allows the owner to do things like start the car remotely, monitor the driving of anyone who borrows the car, and even locate it when it’s lost, such as in a parking lot.

The Camry is America’s best-selling car, a distinction it gained through a reputation for affordability, practicality, and longevity. For 2018, Toyota wants to add a measure of fun to that reputation.
