The Lexus LS Is Sportier Than Ever for 2018

The Lexus LS is the vehicle that brought Lexus into the world in 1990. It was called the LS 400 then, and it was a full-size, rear-wheel drive, V8-powered luxury sedan meant to take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and any other car that considered itself fancy.

It was a big hit. Critics loved it, shoppers trusted it because it was made by Toyota, and, most of all, it severely undercut its German competition on price without cutting any corners. It was the vehicle that helped launch a brand, and it returns for 2018 as the LS 500, a totally new LS based on totally new architecture that makes it the most aggressive LS yet.

The LS has never had ambitions as a sport sedan, but in recent years it had begun attracting more and more criticism for its sleepy driving dynamics. So for 2018 everything is a little tighter, a little stronger, and a little more responsive. That mechanical approach is reflected in the new aesthetics. Put simply, the LS looks more like a coupe now.

And yet inside it’s the same sophisticated, luxurious LS it always has been, with unique wood patterns, new textures, and a new sound system.
