Lincoln Continental: Concept vs. Production

8 of 8

Past, Present, and Future

When Lincoln discontinued the Continental in 2002, sales were declining, in part because the Continental was competing with fresher, more modern cars in the same price range, even in Lincoln’s own lineup. By 2000, Lincoln had three luxury V8 sedans in its lineup, sandwiching the Continental between the LS and the Town Car.

Most of the automotive press took the 2015 Continental concept as an announcement that Lincoln was once again taking the idea of a flagship sedan seriously. The styling was meant to evoke the stately Continentals of the 1960s and it was met with enough enthusiasm that Lincoln didn’t bother changing much. The Lincoln Continental is back for the fourth time. Still no suicide doors, though.
