2017 GMC Terrain vs. 2017 Chevy Equinox: Head to Head

3 of 12

Fuel Economy

Winner: 2017 GMC Terrain

The Terrain’s smaller, four-cylinder engine achieves good fuel economy estimates, earning 21 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. The V6 engine achieves slightly worse numbers with 17 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. With the bigger engine also comes a bigger fuel tank, helping to make up the range difference.

Although the Chevy Equinox’s V6 engine gets the same fuel economy estimates as the Terrain’s, its gas tank is the same size through each trim level. The Terrain and Equinox fuel economy is identical. However, we have to give the win to the Terrain because it offers the option of a larger fuel tank.
