Both cars earned 5-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Fusion was awarded the top rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in all five categories and earned the coveted Top Safety Pick + award. The Accord has not yet been tested by the IIHS, but the 2016 model was a Top Safety Pick +.

The Fusion’s available options include blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, and rear parking sensors. Also available is adaptive cruise control and park assist. These features are only offered in upper trims.

Optional features in the Accord include Honda’s Sensing system with lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and front and rear parking sensors. All trim levels offer Honda Sensing. The Honda Lane Watch blind spot camera is only available on upper trims.

While the Fusion has a higher safety score, the Accord offers nearly identical features and you can get them in every trim.
