Battle of the Brands: 2016 Toyota Vehicles vs. 2016 Honda Vehicles

Safety

Winner: 2016 Honda Vehicles

Both automakers are known for consistently high safety scores. Toyota and Honda are industry leaders in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash testing, and both offer loads of standard and optional safety equipment.

Safety score comparisons aren’t as telling as the reliability scores between these two Japanese powerhouses. Honda wins the small car battle with the Civic’s perfect 10 and a 9.7 for the Fit; the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s perfect safety score trumps the CR-V. However, the non-hybrid version of the RAV4 falls short. In our midsize SUVs ranking, the competing vehicles tie at with a score of 9.3. Our minivans safety scores clear up the close battle, with Honda’s Odyssey at 9.7 over the Sienna’s 9.0.
