Winner: 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu L starts at an MSRP of $21,625, which is a savings of more than $600 over the 2016 Honda Accord LX sedan’s base price of $22,205. The Chevy comes with a six-speed automatic at this price, and the Honda comes with a manual. A continuously variable transmission adds $800 to the Honda. In the base trim, the Malibu comes with push-button start, a basic audio system, and steel wheels with plastic covers. The Accord’s higher price nets an 8-inch display, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and alloy wheels. However, the Malibu LS, which costs $23,100, about even with the base Accord, is equipped with an automatic transmission, and offers all these features plus a touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Once you get past the base models, the Accord and Malibu’s trim lines, options, and prices are similar. Although, if you opt for the top-trim Accord, the Accord Touring, you will end up paying about $4,000 more than if you were to go with the top trim Malibu, the Malibu Premier.
